My Approach to Helping
I regard every person seeking my help as a client, not a patient, and I focus on my clients' strengths, not their disorders. I am interactive with my clients, not just a sounding board. I meet my clients where they are, and help them to move in the direction they feel is best for them and at their pace. When appropriate, I help my clients to improve their communication and active listening skills, assist them in role playing to help them to develop empathy, and help them to "rewrite" the meaning of their experiences in a way that helps them to heal from trauma, depression, or anxiety. I also help my clients to develop a healthy sense of self and become better problem-solvers and better decision makers. I believe strongly in empowering my clients to eventually become their own therapists and be independent.

More Info About My Practice
I provide a free initial consultation in which we discuss your insurance coverage, presenting issues, and whether or not I am the best fit for your therapy needs. If I am not the best fit, I will provide referrals to other therapists who are better suited to your needs.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

The purpose of psychotherapy/counseling is to become more empowered to manage your emotions, moods, and behaviors to improve your abilty to succeed in all areas of your life, in the home and on the job. The main reasons clients seek my help are 1) to avoid burdening their friends and families with their troubles, 2) to have a neutral and objective perspective from a professional, and 3) to learn new insights and skills to help them to solve their problems or achieve their goals.
