My Approach to Helping
I believe that we all have the ability to deal with life events and transitions. Sometimes additional support or a different perspective can enhance our own innate abilities. Sometimes concrete feedback and problem solving is necessary. Sometimes a safe environment to explore emotions and behaviors is more beneficial. I try to create a relationship with my clients that can help work towards their goals, using their strengths. This may look different depending on the life stage and/or developmental stage an individual, family or relationship is in. My style is supportive and collaborative. I work with a children, adolescents and families as well as individual adults and couples. I received my Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and my Masters Degree in Social Work from George Williams College of Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois. I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Academy of Certified Social Workers. I became Clinical Director of Barbara Kenedy and Associates in 2005. Barbara Kenedy and Associates has been providing effective, professional and confidential conseling and psychotherapy in downtown Naperville for over 20 years.
