My Approach to Helping
One of the greatest gifts therapists can give to their clients is being a "compassionate witness." As a therapist who desires to create a safe place, I work with my clients to discover and build internal and external resources for healing and change, while recognizing and shifting hurtful patterns of thoughts, behaviors and relationships.

I work with a variety of clients many of whom are facing marital/couple breakdown and miscommunication; affair recovery; relational betrayal, crisis, and endings; PTSD, anxiety and panic; boundary issues; verbal/emotional abuse; childhood abuse/neglect; rejection and abandonment; grief and loss; and addiction recovery.

I collaborate with my clients in working toward meeting their goals in ways and at a pace that feel safe to them as together we focus on current and historical relational injuries and patterns. This often involves addressing unresolved childhood abuse/neglect and adult trauma while we remain engaged in the client's present experience of emotion and relationship. I utilize several therapeutic modalities or aspects of these therapies, including: Attachment Theory, Experiential, Lifespan Integration, Cloud-Townsend Growth Model, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

What I love about being a therapist and why I am passionate about the work I do as a Couples and Individual therapist is the connection that is made, the hope that is given at that point where the client knows I "get" them, that I care, and that I truly have a path-- along with the confidence and the knowledge to guide them on that path--into healing their relationships and achieving their therapeutic goals! What often follows is we begin to make those incremental changes along with those sudden major shifts and the client’s world and their relationships are significantly changed. When a couple comes into therapy emotionally cut off or at war with one another, but are now deeply connected, committed and equipped to endure, or when an individual client has that look of newly realized freedom from a once binding traumatic memory or history, I feel like I can fly right along with them. Joy permeates the room as we realize we have done this work together, and we are all in a better place because of it. I believe it was Carl Whitaker who said that if a therapist is bored with their own therapeutic work, their client is probably bored too! Conversely, if the therapy I am offering is good, if it is truly therapeutic, than I will benefit from it as well.
