QUALIFICATIONS Ms. Love works with adolescents, adults, families, and couples. She specializes in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders and infertility. She has a masters degree in counseling psychology, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (California), Licensed Professional Counselor (Oregon) and is a Certified Somatic Experiencing (S.E.) Practitioner. She has been fortunate to have studied with the founder of S.E., Dr. Peter Levine, an international speaker and author. APPROACH As a mind and body psychotherapist, Ms. Love combines Cognitive-Behavioral talk therapy with Somatic Experiencing body-orientated therapy. Ms. Love incorporates S.E. into her approach because she finds that some of her clients symptoms can not be fully addressed with talk therapy alone. With her comprehensive mind-body approach, her clients report a renewed sense of self and increased hope about the future and the possibilities that lie ahead.
More Info About My Practice
EATING DISORDER SPECIALIST Ms. Love has spent several years working with eating disorder clients. She has found that a comprehensive mind and body approach gives clients the greatest hope of a full recovery. Typical eating disorder treatment is addressed from a cognitive approach. Ms. Love's approach deals with the cognitive issues, but also the physiological issues. Typical physiological issues include an inability for the nervous system to self regulate and therefore make it extremely difficult for the eating disorder client to manage their anxiety and depression. Ms. Love's mind and body approach, combined with her personal insights about what it took to recover after a 20 year battle with anorexia and bulimia, make her an ideal therapist for anyone struggling with an eating disorder. In addition, Ms. Love, a former long distance runner who competed at both the National and Olympic level, has a special interest in working with athletes, especially those struggling with eating disorders (dancers, gymnasts and long-distance runners). INFERTILITY SPECIALIST It was Ms. Love's own experience with infertility that gave her a deep understanding of the stress and heartache associated with infertility. And since recent research (see below) has demonstrated a link between infertility issues and stress (which affects people both mentally and physiologically), her treatment approach is sure to enhance your chances. Infertility Research: - Women undergoing IVF who were worried about the medical aspects of their treatments had 20% fewer eggs retrieved and 19% fewer eggs fertilized (Klonoff-cohen and Natarajan, 2004) - Recent studies conducted at Harvard Medical School on 184 women going through infertility treatments, of those attended a 10-week course of relaxation training, cognitive restructuring, and stress reduction, 55% had a viable pregnancy within one year. Compared to only 20% of the control group achieving a viable pregnancy in one year (Domar et al, April 2000). - Women who were not depressed before starting IVF treatment had a conceptions rate twice as high as women who were depressed before treatment. (Thiering, Beaurepaire, Jones, & Saunders, 1993) - Women with a history of depression were nearly twice as likely to report infertility as women without such history. (Freeman, Garcia, & Rickles, 1983). - Research shows that Mind Body techniques boost odds of getting pregnant, decreasing depression and increases chances (Alice Lesch Kelly, Ph.D.)
