My Approach to Helping
I value and honor the diversity of my clients. Listening to my clients, being attentive, non-judgmental and present is of the utmost importance. My clients often comment that they appreciate my calm manner. Whether my client is a child, adolescent, couple or individual, I help them to achieve the goals that are most important to them. Families are complex systems. When one person in the family is having trouble, all the other members are affected. For example, when one member of the family is chronically ill, depressed or suffering from a loss, it disrupts the flow of interactions among the family members. In relationships, if one partner is suffering due to depression, job loss or caring for an elderly parent, both partners suffer. When working with children and adolescents, I take a comprehensive look at the whole picture including the child's or adolescent's behaviors at home, school and daycare; medical history; family history and patterns; and the parents' understanding of parenting. I believe it is important to coordinate treatment with other professionals when appropriate such as the pediatrician or primary care physician, teachers, day care providers, caretakers, or other family members. A woman's life can be a balancing act between relationship, family, career and nurturing herself. She will go through many transitions and challenges over the course of her life. I offer counseling services to help women during those transitions, through self-discovery, changing unwanted patterns and learning new ways of relating. I offer supportive therapy groups for women in transition and women wanting to speak their truth.
