My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Child Mental Health Specialist in private practice. Much of my clinical practice has focused on treating issues around pregnancy and the postpartum period for women and their families. I also offer a wide range of therapeutic services for children and adults.
My work as a clinician is guided by nearly twenty years of experience. My philosophy towards helping people achieve perceived change is client-centered and built upon collaboration, cooperation, and a deep respect for the client's own resources and abilities to arrive at solutions to problems and challenges. Acknowledging the uniqueness of each individual, I combine a variety of approaches to assist clients as they work to reach their own personal growth goals. I view the individual in the context of the larger system, and stress the central role that relationships and family play in influencing behavior. Clients are encouraged to be active participants in their own treatment. You are the best expert on your own life, and I view my role as a support and guide on your journey.
I received my Master of Arts in Psychology from Antioch University Seattle, and my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Washington. Much of my graduate work focused on women's issues, with emphasis on the physical, emotional, and spiritual transition to motherhood, with additional training in the clinical treatment of infants, children, and adolescents. I hold a Post-Graduate certificate in Foster Care and Adoption Therapy, also from Antioch University Seattle. I am currently enrolled in a three-year certification program focusing on the treatment of trauma in babies and children, with adult applications, under the supervision of Dr. William Emerson. Additionally, I have completed pre- and perinatal course work at the doctoral level at Santa Barbara Graduate Institute.
