My Approach to Helping
I believe that you are the authority on your own life. Within you exists the potential to fully express your authentic self and to live a fulfilling life. However, there are times in all of our lives when we may experience stress, depression, anxiety, confusion, anger, fear, or complacency. When this happens it can be difficult to manage our lives effectively and with peace of mind. This is when professional support can be helpful.

Whatever concerns you are struggling with, I will collaborate with you to help you identify your goals and develop a treatment approach to empower you to realize them.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Therapy can help you understand and reframe your problems and concerns. It can teach you specific skills to help you find more satisfaction from the work you do and your relationships. A therapist’s office is a place where you are free to express private thoughts and struggles. Friends and family members can provide excellent emotional support, but a therapist can give you a trained, and more impartial, perspective on your life. A therapist can help provide support, insight, and a new strategy for life’s challenges. Therapy is right for anyone interested in improving life by creating greater self-awareness and making active life changes.

IS Counseling, a collaboration between Miriam Itzkowitz, LICSW and Jessica Sawyer, LAMFT, is based on the counseling philosophy we share. We believe the most powerful tool in therapy is the connection between therapist and client. We help create and maintain this connection so that our clients can move towards change.

My Therapy Focus

I have worked with youth, adults, and families doing in-home, group, individual, and couples/partner therapy.
