My Approach to Helping
My practice philosophy is borrowed from an unknown author (some say it's Ralph Waldo Emerson)who once wrote the following:

WHAT LIES BEHIND US AND WHAT LIES BEFORE US ARE TINY MATTERS COMPARED TO WHAT LIES WITHIN US.

My work is grounded in my belief in the resilience of the human spirit and the power of the client-therapist relationship to help access what we carry within.

I offer a humanistic blend of psychodynamic psychotherapies to address concerns which include, but are not limited to: grief, loss and bereavement; living with chronic or terminal illness; coping with a cancer diagnosis; anxiety; depression; fertility issues; marital stress; life transitions and parenting.

Over the years I have incorporated a blend of approaches into my practice. Therefore, treatment is tailored to meet your individual needs. Some of the disciplines from which I draw are Gestalt, Cognitive-Behavior, Insight-Oriented and Expressive Psychotherapies.

We all have a personal narrative. My role as therapist is to pay careful attention to your story so that we can work together on raising self-awareness and fostering a heightened understanding of who you are and how you relate to the world around you.

More Info About My Practice
If you are seeking a shorter-term, problem solving approach to address issues that are more immediate in nature, I offer goal-oriented, solution-focused Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (6-8 sessions).

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have extensive experience working with grief, loss and bereavement. It has been the focus of my work since I began practicing and is the primary reason I became a psychotherapist.

My Role as a Therapist

My role as therapist is to be where you are in this present moment.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

My own struggles have made me a better therapist and will continue to make me a better therapist. I view life as an ongoing process of self-reflection and examination. There is always room for becoming a "better therapist," for personal growth, for self-actualization, for possibility and for change. I have lived through crises, I respect and understand professional boundaries and I know how to listen.
