Do you feel that your days are simply a race to the finish line? Juggling the many demands placed upon us, we often focus more on getting through our day, than enjoying it. Stress from any source relationships, family/parenting, occupational or financial can have a devastating effect on both our physical and emotional well being. Because we concentrate more on what happened in our past, yesterday, and our expectations of the the future, tomorrow, we fail to recognize the possibilities for happiness and joy that exist TODAY. In my over 15 years of clinical practice, I found that most people struggle with the decision to begin counseling. An experienced, knowledgeable therapist will address your fears and apprehension; counseling should be the "safe haven" where you can speak openly and honestly, without the concern of judgment. I describe the process of counseling as creating a road map. Serving as your guide, a therapist assists you in identifying your goals (your desired destination), recognizing obstacles that you may continue to face and keeping you motivated that you are heading in the right direction. Most importantly, counseling should provide you with the tools to achieve your goal, strategies that you clearly understand and can implement to create the life you deserve and desire. I strongly believe in tailoring treatment to each person's specific needs; I utilize a variety of approaches, from cognitive-behavioral (aimed at changing maladaptive thoughts), to systems based (geared at exploring history and familial patterns), to Eastern "mindfulness" and meditative techniques. I welcome the opportunity to help you in your quest for a better life.
More Info About My Practice
As a wife, mother of 3 children and working professional, I uniquely understand the many demands placed on women. In our effort to be caregivers, we tend to forget our own needs. Many women come to me feeling drained and depleted, as though each day is more challenging than the last. While many therapists offer services geared for women, I feel that I have a unique perspective aimed at empowering women and assisting them over the many hurdles in their lives. Women are not only affected by their environment, but by the biological/hormonal factors that are unique to our gender. Specifically, infertility, miscarriage, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and menopause are issues that I address. Assisting women in their quest to feel like "effective" mothers, balancing work and family, overcoming self esteem, body image or eating-related issues, are all encompassed in my practice. I also work with both male and female survivors of sexual, physical or emotional abuse.Additionally, I provide services to children, adolescents and families. Children are often faced with nearly as many pressures as adults. Yet, they are not emotionally prepared to cope with these stressors, resulting in anxiety. Working with individuals of all ages, youth to adult, suffering from the crippling effects of anxiety, has always been a prominent part of my practice. I have received advanced training and possess expertise in the treatment of a wide variety of common and atypical anxiety disorders. I welcome any inquiries into my training, experience and credentials. I personally speak with all clients prior to scheduling an initial appointment.
