My Approach to Helping
Therapy is about empowering individuals and coming face-to-face with adversities in order to create richer and more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided to explore past experiences as they impact current emotions and behaviors. I help clients to process debilitating emotional issues, deal with shame, and gain a greater knowledge of themselves. Through the therapeutic process, we bring deep-seated issues to the surface so that each client gains the ability to direct his or her own life. I have been helping people develop their personal strengths and understand and adjust their ways of relating to others for over 30 years, and have seen countless clients transform themselves through therapy.
I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is central to effectively processing issues and achieving desired changes. I build this alliance through compassionate listening, observation of behaviors, and challenging clients in a manner that fits for them. I am educated in a diverse array of mental health issues, which qualifies me to help people struggling with everything from depression, anxiety or chemical dependency; to relationship issues and parenting concerns. I have extensive training in various therapy frameworks including psychodynamic, family of origin, and cognitive behavioral methods, which enables me to individualize services for each client I work with. I am knowledgeable about cross-cultural differences and in tune with the skills required to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
