Hi. I am a psychodynamically trained psychotherapist. This means that I help people identify and understand the conflicts that may be causing them difficulties. I attempt to understand people not only in the context of their current situation and family history, but on the basis of their cultural and social contexts as well. I am also trained in family therapy, and I use this method when appropriate, usually when parents seek treatment for their child. I am bilingual (English/Spanish), with eight years of experience providing psychotherapy in Spanish. (Yo soy licenciado en psiclogï, biling ingles/Espanol.)
More Info About My Practice
I work with adults, children, and adolescents with a wide range of emotional and interpersonal issues. In other cases, I help people deal with relatively minor problems of living. I have extensive experience in helping people with anxiety disorders and depression, which are the two most common reasons Americans enter psychotherapy. In my opinion, when helping people overcome anxiety it is essential that, in addition to psychodynamic interventions, we do some work around countering negative self-talk and catastrophic interpretations of anxiety symptoms. Other issues I work well with include low self-esteem (which underlies many of the problems leading people to seek psychotherapy), reducing stress, problems at work and at school, loss and grieving, and problems in intimate relationships.
