My Approach to Helping
My passion is working with couples and enhancing communication. Often times couples experience feeling disconnected due to fighting, a new job, disagreements about intimacy, lack of communication, an affair, a new baby, or settling into comfortable patterns, I love the work we do together to reconnect and rebuild emotional intimacy. I meet with all kinds of couples, so whether you have been married for 30 years, are living together long-term, are recently engaged, planning a commitment ceremony, taking a break, or living separately let's develop a plan to get you where you want to be in your relationship. Clients often report a sense of relief after a few meetings because they know that I am actively addressing their concerns.

While I tend to work mostly with relationships and couples, I also have familiarity with many individual issues such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, personal growth, career changes, and emotional wellness.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Trust yourself and the process. I offer a free 30 minute consultation so you can "try it out" without making a commitment. I will send you home and encourage you to think about starting therapy and when you are ready I encourage you to get back in touch with me. You might be feeling nervous or anxious to talk with a therapist, this is normal and I am here to help answer your questions and guide you through the process.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

My real-life experiences have shaped me and they inform how I deliver therapy. I am a child of divorce; I understand the effects it can have on a person as well as repairing broken bonds. I understand the joys and complexities of being in a relationship and having a partner. I have sought out my own therapy which has afforded me the understanding of what it feels like to be a client. I have also experienced the loss of loved ones and the family companion animal. The stigma and label of having ADD/ADHD is something I now embrace as I fully understand the unique ways in which my brain works. We all have our "stuff" and when appropriate I am willing to share mine with you in the therapeutic setting. I am a firm believer in "how we respond to the stuff" will determine our ability to work through it. If you are currently hoping to better respond to life's' stressors I am here to help.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Depending on the concern or problem you bring to therapy will determine how long we meet. Some clients will come for a couple months and others prefer a longer-term therapeutic relationship. Generally people want to meet weekly in the beginning. For couples I offer a longer meeting of 100 minutes, clients report they need the longer time when they are getting started and have a lot to discuss. When clients are ready to come less frequently, we discuss meeting every other week. Some client choose to lock in a time and will come every week at their designated time. Other clients will email me when a space opens up in their schedule. As my client you truly are in the driver's seat.
