My Approach to Helping
Confronting your problems and seeking help can seem risky, even threatening. Overcoming the obstacles in creating change, like fears, self-blame and despair, takes real courage. Congratulations in taking the first step by reaching out for help. A safe, non-judgmental space where you can give voice to your concerns makes all the difference in regaining confidence and peace of mind. From such a foundation of trust and collaboration, I work with individuals on learning practical skills and developing existing resources to find relief for their immediate concerns like overwhelming anxiety and stress. Depending on the needs of the individual, therapy can also be used to address underlying issues such as past trauma and abuse or lack of skills in managing emotions and relationships. Such long term work can develop healthy habits and new resources that bring lasting peace of mind, increased confidence and an all around sense of well-being.

More Info About My Practice
In my practice, I have chosen to specialize in the typically hard to treat issues of anxiety, dissociation and prolonged depression. It is not uncommon for these concerns to be associated with a trauma and abuse history. I am experienced in inovative and highly effective techniques used in the treatment of these underlying problems. These therapys which include EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy use the body to process trauma memories in ways that traditional talk therapy can not. Other tools that people often find helpful are behavioral coping skills such as controlled breathing and other mindfulness techniques to address anxiety, stress and general emotional coping. I also have experience in family and couples therapy as well as work with grief and loss, anger, addictions, mediation, work performance enhancement and emotional issues around money.

My Guiding Ethical Principles

As a therapist I work to create a presence of unconditional acceptance that respects the client's unique perspective and place of suffering. This acceptance creates a safe, non-judgmental space which allows the client to gain greater trust and confidence in the process. I work from a holistic perspective which is based on a belief in the interdependence of mind, body and spirit. The qualities of a happy and fulfilled life can be divided into separate areas such as physical health, social support, family life, religion and spirituality, etc. The health of each of theses is uniquely important as it contributes to the whole. This work toward wholeness comes from the inner, innate wisdom of the individual client. I see my role as a therapist as a facilitator, to honor the process by creating a safe, nurturing space for this to happen. Finally, I honor the deep and profound mystery of the healing process. It is with reverence and awe that I join with clients in their journey of self-exploration and personal growth.
