I see therapy as an art form that isn't easily described in words, because each of my therapy sessions will vary from week-to-week and from client-to-client. I'll do my best to give you a sense of my style, and feel free to ask me more questions either before we meet or when we are meeting. Some of the ideas that separate one from therapist from another are: * how the therapist thinks you came to be the person you are today * how a therapist interacts with you How you came to be the person you are today: My view is that people are a blend of 1) formative interpersonal and cultural experiences, 2) modeling from our caregivers and other significant people, and 3) our particular biochemistry and temperament. Some therapists view one of these components as more influential than others, but I believe that they are intertwined. If there's something that you want to explore in therapy, it might be connected to a thought or behavior pattern, or it might be more of a feeling or a reaction that is uncomfortable for you. How I interact with you: My approach is to take an accepting, nonjudgmental, exploratory stance. I allow myself to be fully present with what the client is feeling and let that guide where we go in session. It is my belief that a large part of therapy is having the unique experience of someone witnessing your inner thoughts and feelings in a truly compassionate manner. I work with the client to have a safe, warm atmosphere in which to process his or her inner world; and to practice and explore what he/she would like to be the outer representation of that inner world.
