My Approach to Helping
This is your time to shift your life in a more fulfilling and positive direction. We all experience phases when we're looking to find relief from distressing emotions/ experiences, gain insight, find resolution, improve coping, or are in need of additional support/motivation. Self-growth and change can be challenging but it is possible! I enjoy getting to know my clients and working with them in a collaborative yet genuine and productive manner. It is important to me that clients feel comfortable and connected in order for us to build a positive relationship where growth and change can occur.

My treatment is holistic and custom-tailored to each client's unique needs, goals, values and strengths. Therefore, I use various theories and therapeutic techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Family Systems, and Focusing - a mindfulness based approach.

I specialize in working with individuals experiencing sadness, anxiety, disordered eating, stress, relationship issues, student or transitional issues, and self-esteem. I also provide specialized services in eating issues and weight-loss treatment with adolescents, individuals and families in order to make a healthy lifestyle change for improved weight, self-esteem, and motivation.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

One major stigma about therapy is that it is for those that are unhappy or struggling. While some do see counselors for these reasons, each individual’s motivation for seeking services is uniquely different. The truth is, countless high functioning and happy individuals go to therapy and use it as a positive thing for personal growth and insight. Therapy provides an opportunity for you to get to know yourself better, gain insight about your life or relationships with others, as well as assists you in working towards and reaching your goals. Really, anyone could benefit from counseling because no one is perfect or leads a life of nirvana. If you are on the fence about engaging in therapy, I recommend finding a counselor that will meet with you for a free consultation. During this consultation you can better assess if this is something that you want to do. Additionally, it will give you an opportunity to see if the counselor is someone that you want to work with. Every counselor has a different personality, communication style and therapeutic approach. It’s important for you to feel comfortable with your counselor. So ask yourself during the consultation if the counselor is a good fit for you? If not, try someone else. Ultimately, it can be difficult to fully understand the value and benefit of therapy without first trying it. So, what do you have to lose? It just may be something that you enjoy.
