Nearly everyone has negative internal self-talk at times; some people have it going on almost all the time. An internal voice may remind a person of past failures, sorrows, or disappointments, torture one with criticism or verbal abuse, describe frightening or unpleasant futures, or disturb one in other ways. “You failed miserably." “What a loser I am.” “I’ll never succeed.” “Life is a crock.” These negative internal voices cause unpleasant feelings, which are not helpful in reaching goals and succeeding in life, and are often the triggers for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and other issues. Most therapeutic approaches are directed toward what the voice says. In contrast, Mr. Andreas will demonstrate a wide variety of ways to rapidly change how the voice speaks—its volume, tonality, tempo, location, etc.—in order to change one's response to it.
