My Approach to Helping
I provide therapy within a collaborative, directive and educational framework. I will focus on helping you gain insight but also work to help you learn practical skills. These are skills you can use on a daily basis which can make life more fulfilling and less of a struggle. I primarily use a Cognitive-Behavioral approach which focuses on the impact that your thoughts have upon emotions and behavior. We work together to change those thinking patterns, increase your control of your thinking, and improve your mood. I also work with you to change negative behaviors and make better choices. Through the therapy process, you can create healthier relationships, feel better, and put yourself on more positive path.

My Therapy Focus

The focus of my work as a therapist is helping people identify choices in how they think and behave, and helping them learn strategies to make these changes. My clients find that through making a conscious effort to think and behave differently, they have more fulfilling relationships, learn to make themselves happy, and feel more in control. The therapy process also helps people gain insight into their own lives and see that they have many of their own answers.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

People who are new to therapy often tell me that it was a difficult decision to make, and they felt relieved to finally talk to someone about things they had been trying to deal with on their own. Usually the only way to know if a therapist is right for you is to go and have an intial session or two. Making that first call can be difficult, but once you meet face to face it is much easier to make the decision about whether or not a therapist is right for you. During your initial session, we will discuss your goals, your motivation for therapy and how I see the process moving forward. The initial session involves me gathering information from you, but also gives you a chance to ask me questions.
