My Approach to Helping

Awaken your neural pathways to transform your nervous system for a transformative journey towards living and empowered life, free of stress.

Gretchen Hentsch-Cowles obtained her Master of Science in Family Therapy in Denton, TX, after studying Oriental Studies at Oxford University, UK. She grew up in Europe and Asia, and continues to enjoy traveling with her children and friends, discovering new enriching cultures and traditions.

She completed the Somatic Experiencing® three year certification program, trained with Peter Levine as well as Pia Mellody and John Gottman. She is certified by Bessel van der Kolk in Trauma Stress Studies as well as other business and therapeutic modalities.

For over a decade, Gretchen has specialized in supporting families, individuals, and couples facing PTSD and trauma, somatic disorders, chronic pain, concussions, various phobias as well as neurological-based challenges.

Additionally, she focuses on coaching athletic and business individuals who face hurdles and wish to take their talents to the next level. Gretchen is Korn Ferry Architect Certified as well as Benzinger Thinking Styles Assessment trained.

Gretchen's treatment approaches are guided by her personal experiences and understanding of recovery as well as her theoretical and clinical training. She is compassionate and understanding all the while capable of challenging and coaching her clients on their journey.

Problems can be effectively addressed when an integrated approach to growth is adopted. Her therapeutic approach explores the emotional, cognitive, behavioral, spiritual and somatic systems, wherein unresolved past issues reside and often cause present life challenges.

I support each client with compassion and understanding, all the while challenging compulsive, destructive behaviors, which my clients courageously seek to change.

My Role as a Therapist

My role in therapy is two-fold: to act a guide for my clients in exploring the patterns of dysfunction that may exist in their family of origin and in their current relationships, so that my clients can understand, process, and move through issues to make different choices. Secondly, I act as an empowering coach, in helping my clients work through their issues, pain and discomfort, and learn new skills in life as well rewire their nervous system. In practicing Integrative treatment approaches, I strive to empower clients, and approach each client with compassion and curiosity.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

I tend to avoid giving advice. Instead, I ask people whether they want to continue living the life they are living or do they want to take a leap of faith, believing in themelves to discover that there is a healthier and more empowered life they could be living.
