My Approach to Helping
Relationships are my business. Helping people change is my passion. I am trained to work with complex problems between people and sexual issues within couples and individuals. I work briefly and collaboratively with you, your significant others, and other professionals to create the fastest, most effective change that actually takes, by learning about you and what works for you. I track our results session by session to be sure you are making the progress you want to make. I want to know as quickly and accurately as possible what does and doesn't work for you, so we can use our time together effectively. I help you become more aware of changes as they happen, so you are able to make increasingly conscious choices in life. I help you not merely cope with problems, but cut to the heart of the matter to keep them resolved, giving you a renewed sense of faith in your own in abilities and confidence in the skills you can use long after therapy ends. You'll leave therapy will tools to master future problems, and create a life you'll love, without feeling like you have to depend on therapy. That said, I remain available to my clients long after their initial problems have been solved, and have been privileged to work on and off over the years with people who have transformed their lives and shared their progress with me.

More Info About My Practice
I work Monday-Friday, into the evening. I offer as much flexibility with my schedule as I am able, and manage to arrange meeting times that work for many of my clients with challenging work and family schedules. I accept all Aetna, MHN - HealthNet, and TriCare policies. For other insurers (such as Oxford, United Health or Cigna), if you have out-of-network benefits, when you pay me directly, I provide you with a detailed statement for reimbursement. Talk to your insurer to find out how your plan works. Your insurer decides what your mental health benefits are, whether you have out-of-network benefits, what percentage they reimburse you at, what your deductible is, and if one applies, and is the best source of information about you policy. TO make this easier for you, I put an intake form on my website that guides you through what questions to ask about your policy.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

In addition to helping people in relationships (such as couples, families, business, romantic or other types of partnership) resolve conflicts and improve their communication skills, I help people and relationships with sexual issues. These include low desire in one person whose partner has more sexual desire, mismatched desires (preferring different forms of sexual expression) in a couple, anxiety about sex or sexual performance, lack of education about sex, painful sex, unconsummated marriages, once intimate relationships that have become "like just roommates", problems with erection, ejaculation, or orgasm, orgasm happening too quickly or not at all, coping with infidelity (non-consensual non-monogamy), how to behave ethically in mutually agreed-on open relationships, concerns or confusion about one’s gender or romantic preferences, determining what is safe, sane and consensual in kink-aware relationships. I work well with sexual and other minorities and provide non-judgmental guidance so that people can make decisions that are right for them, in accordance with their values. ejaculation or orgasm. I work well with sexual and other minorities.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

I believe therapy ends, at least for a time, when a client agrees that the goals they came in with have been met to their satisfaction. Many issues can be dealt with to in from 4 to 20 sessions. When possible, I like to begin with weekly meetings to form a good working relationship with you, then taper off as things begin to improve. I assign between-session tasks or experiments to perform, and ask the next time I see you “what’s different”, “what’s important to work on today?” or “how close are you to meeting your goals?” to monitor your progress and help you tune in to changes you may not have noticed, and things that are working for you that you would like to continue or amplify. Many of my clients finish a chunk of work with me, then return, sometimes years later, to do another chunk. Once I’ve worked with someone, I am able remember their history and issues and to pick up the work again. Like family doctor, I’m honored to be therapist for life to many of my clients and their families.
