My Approach to Helping
I have helped individuals and couples with a wide range of issues for over 20 years. My approach draws from various orientations, and emphasizes (i) listening attentively, supportively, and non-judgmentally, helping you to feel understood and accepted; (ii) enhancing awareness and understanding of feelings, and of how feelings, thoughts, and behavior interact with and affect each other; (iii) identifying and challenging counterproductive thoughts; and (iv) encouraging related change and growth.
In couples and marital therapy, partners typically start with different perspectives. I try to create a safe and productive environment in therapy by (i) compassionately and respectfully understanding EACH partner's perspective; (ii) helping each person to better understand himself/herself, her/his partner, and relationship patterns; (iii) identifying new, more constructive ways of dealing with conflict and problematic aspects of the relationship.
More Info About My Practice
In contrast to big clinics, I am an independent provider with a private waiting room overlooking a quiet, peaceful courtyard. When you call, you reach my private answering machine, and I call you back directly. (You may reach me quickly by paging; my pager number is provided in my answering machine message.) I accept many insurance plans, and would be happy to submit claims for your therapy with me.
Seeking help is a big step. Good for you for considering it, and thanks for considering me. I'd be happy to try to help you. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment.
