My Approach to Helping
I do a very complete initial interview including current situation, current and past mood, anxiety, substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, trauma, stressors, relationships, psychiatric treatment and medical issues, as well as genetic precedent for psychiatric or substance/alcohol in blood relatives, family of origin and developmental issues and school/job history.
From this history, I formulate with the client or clients ways to address the problems which caused them to seek therapy. I am very active in the sessions, sharing ideas and suggestions which may help them. I like to meet with people every week until they get stabilized, and then meet less often. I use various types of intervention styles as the therapeutic alliance forms, focusing on those which make the most sense to the client.
