My Approach to Helping
As a divorce and family mediator, a facilitative approach is used as much as possible. When necessary, an evaluative or transformative approach is used. The method used is determined by the needs of the participants in the process.
As a parenting coordinator, whenever possible, a resolution is mediated. When that is not possible, a recommendation is made to the parties, their attorneys and the court, as needed.
As a therapist, a variety of modalities are utilized and encouraged including but not limited to: journaling, art, nature, music, cognitive-behavioral and talk therapy. the modalities used is determined with the client based on his or her comfort level and experience.
As a parenting coach, Ellen Craine uses her experience as a mediator, parenting coordinator, therapist and parent to assist parents with their parenting or co-parenting struggles. the goal is to cooperatively create resolution that is fair and equitable to parents and their children as much as possible.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is to empower people to resolve issues in their life on their own. It is also to provide emotional support, but not to create a dependency on the therapist.
