My Approach to Helping
Making a decision to attend psychotherapy is often not easy and normally occurs after an individual has attempted to resolve issues on their own. Being locked into ways of thinking, feeling, or behaving can lead us to believe that we have no control over aspects of ourselves or circumstances in our lives. This sense of helplessness can gradually undermine our self-confidence, feelings of well-being, and connection to life, which can lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety, unsatisfying relationships, and lowered performance at work or school.
In order to help people move beyond ways of thinking, feeling, or behaving that are unhealthy or no longer adaptive, I use a comprehensive therapeutic approach called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR harnesses all we know about how the brain processes and stores life experiences, especially experiences that were disturbing or overwhelming for us. By stimulating the brain's inherent self-healing capacities, EMDR therapy accelerates the treatment of a wide range of problems and self-esteem issues related both to upsetting past events and present life conditions. I believe that every client deserves the ability to love, to bond with others, and to excel in life.
