My Approach to Helping
In my nearly 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I have found that addressing the needs of the individual, couple or family in a holistic way brings about the greatest relief from pain, creates positive changes that make life happier and healthier and generate the greatest sense of confidence and hope for lasting improvement in the future. My therapeutic style is direct yet supportive and combines honesty, compassion, respect and humor in equal measure. My clients feel challenged to grow and develop but also deeply cared for just as they are. I often give clients "homework" assignments so that the benefits derived during sessions become incorporated into day to day life. My goal is to empower clients, not to make them dependent on me or on therapy.

More Info About My Practice
I see clients on a fee-for-service basis. Upon request, I will prepare a monthly statement for you to submit to your PPO insurance provider for reimbursement at the out-of-network provider level, typically 50-80% of the covered expense. If temporary financial hardship is preventing you from getting the help you need at this time, please inquire about my sliding fee scale.

In addition to psychotherapy and counseling, I am a certified provider of LENS neurofeedback (also called EEG brainwave biofeedback) which is an effective and painless alternative to medication for the treatment of anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, addiction, OCD, insomnia, chronic pain, mild traumatic brain injury, PTSD and many other conditions related to CNS dysregulation.

I additionally utilize Heart Math HRV Biofeedback, Emotional Freedom Technique and other Alternative and Complementary techniques for enhancing academic and artistic performance and optimizing brain functioning under stress.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have spent much of my professional career working in hospitals and mental health settings where I witnessed first hand the damaging effects of chronic stress on both adults and children. Over 80% of visits to primary care physicians are for symptoms that are a direct result of stress - headaches, back aches, stomach troubles, fatigue, insomnia, rashes and hives, to name a few. Many people turn to smoking, drinking and recreational drugs in an attempt to cope with feelings of stress and anxiety. Others take prescription medications, which do help at first, but then find they don't work so well over time and they are unable to go off of them. I have a real passion for working with people who are committed to overcoming their problems with worry, stress, anxiety without the use of medication. I utilize a wide variety of therapeutic modalities which includes guided imagery and visualization, mindfulness practices, various forms of meditation, breathing and progressive muscle relaxation, as well as biofeedback and neurofeedback, which are both safe and effective. Stress is a part of life and we cannot escape from it. We can learn to manage our stress without depending on drugs or compulsive behaviors and I welcome the opportunity to help you learn the tools to take control of your stress and your life.
