My Approach to Helping
I am interested in the role of the therapeutic relationship in co-creating change. In working with couples I focus on three aspects. My approach involves: 1) Spending the first few sessions making sure we do a thorough assessment of where you are in your relationship, how you have evolved to where you are, what are your individual goals for your relationship, and what needs to change. We will together develop a plan for the work. 2) You will learn about how relationships develop and where you may be stuck. You will learn effective tools for communicating so that you can really hear what each other is saying. You will receive homework in between sessions to keep working on your relationship. 3) I work with you to help you understand the sensitivities you both bring into the relationship, that cause you react in ways that create distance between you. You will learn to repair hurts and express appreciations. When I work with individuals I am interested in an uncovering of core issues that limit our abilities to live our life more truthfully and freely.
