My Approach to Helping
My area of expertise is working with individuals and couples who have reached a point where they feel their lives and relationships are no longer working. Often these feelings stem from unresolved conflicts or recurring patterns that are destructive and painful.
I work within the framework of Object Relations Theory (ORT), Relational Psychotherapy and Family Systems Theory.
These frameworks emphasize self examination and insight, bringing the unconscious into conscious awareness and promote deeper self knowledge which in turn resolves inner conflict.
My approach to treatment emphasizes that one of our most basic human needs is to be in relationship with others. I focus on my client's interactions with others, as well as how they think and feel about themselves. I assist them in exploring how their interpersonal relationships have impacted their emotional development, as well as how their previous relational experiences are affecting their current relationships.
Using a family systems approach we explore together how each member of the family impacts and is impacted by other family members and how these interactions have affected and shaped the patient's life.
