My goal in working with my patients is to help them learn to develop self acceptance,how to feel their feelings and manage them and to have meaningful relationships. These are things that require maintenance and are not achieved once and for all but are worked on along the journey of life. I am a therapist that believes you cannot take your patients where you have not gone yourself. Throughout my life I have been on a journey of self discovery and acceptance and my role as a therapist is to facilitate the same for my patients.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
People become willing to change when the pain of staying the same hurts more than the pain of change. Change is scary and not easy. I admire anyone who is considering beginning therapy because it means they are becoming willing to look at the painful parts of themselves. Therapy is meant to be a safe and supportive place to deal with that pain. I encourage anyone to contact the therapist of their choice and ask for an initial consultation to determine of that therapist is a good fit and and if the experience is a helpful one. Don't be afraid to state your concerns about therapy and your needs to a therapist!
