My Approach to Helping
I am completely dedicated to helping individuals and families discover their full potential. I blend careful and respectful listening with practical feedback and counseling, helping people resolve current issues or long-standing problems and patterns. I find that combining my solution-focused approach with a deeper understanding of complex emotional states helps individuals achieve significant progress towards more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

More Info About My Practice
I am committed to keeping my costs as affordable as possible. The standard rate for my 50-minute therapeutic session is $145. I also maintain a few slots at fees ranging from $48-80 for individuals whose household income or other significant, extenuating circumstances would inhibit them from receiving the help I can provide. Please contact me for more details. I'll do my best to help you or assist you in finding someone who can.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

The art and science of psychotherapy (when practiced at its best) helps individuals gain new insight about life AND incorporate those insights into daily living in a way that sustains and renews energy.

My Therapy Focus

I focus on my client's desire for growth and improvement in life satisfaction. In addition, there are five areas that I encourage individuals to attend to outside our time together and five areas while we are together. Between sessions 1) Good sleep 2) Good nutrition, including taking a multivitamin. 3) At least a moderate form of exercise or physical activity 4) Finding opportunities for service 5) Attending to physical needs (e.g., medical needs) In session, we work on themes of liberation and empowerment - 1) Cultivating curiosity 2) Discerning underlying feelings and emotions 3) Expanding compassion 4) Increasing courage 5) Flexibility between conscientiousness and openness 2) Expanding compassion

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

The question of going to therapy is similar to question of going to the gym. At the gym, you will see top athletes looking to improve performance, individuals rehabbing from a heart attack, and others hoping to drop some pounds to avoid illness. All are valid reasons and a positive indicator for potential progress.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Individuals often ask, "How how long it will take?" Psychotherapy is a process that can be divided into stages: in the first stage, the therapist and individual will examine the request for help. It takes me about 2-3 sessions to have a good idea of what's going on, and by that point, the individual should have a good idea about whether they want to work with me. On rare occasions, I may realize that the request can be better handled by an expert other than myself, and I will help connect the individuals with another therapist. At the end of the first session, most clients feel better. My therapeutic goal is for continuous improvement, and the process may take 6-10 sessions, if it is a very specific issue that we are working on, 6-10 sessions should be sufficient to resolve the issue or have a clear idea of the time involved.
