My Approach to Helping
As I counselor I tap into a variety of theories, approaches such as DBT, breathwork, play therapy, art therapy or mindfulness based CBT--body-mind-spirit/nature unity. I use an eclectic approach that the client and feel is suitable for them in the present moment, aiming to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for the client to make sense of the change they are experiencing.-- Within this safe space clients can rediscover their inner strength and healing powers that live within each individual and feel good. I often integrate healing power of nature, this is reflected in my homework assignments.--Assigning a bike ride or a walk around the block to the client to help reconnect their relationship to the body-mind-spirit/nature

More Info About My Practice
Combining Yoga and Therapy:
When I first connected to my breath it was through yoga and a surge of aliveness filled every cell. This is the feeling I aspire to live on and off the mat and what I wish to pass on to my students.

After experiencing the awareness of my breath and the empowerment my breath gave me to explore my edge, I began to deepen my practice of yoga. From the movement of the asanas, to an intense inner healing art and means of achieving strength and integrity, it has become my passion.

As an avid naturalist and outdoor enthusiast, yoga has brought me closer to a feeling of being part of the earth and its many wonderful blessings than any other activity. I receive a similar feeling from being in the wilderness with my dogs and bicycling every day. I consider this connectedness to the earth a gift of Forrest Yoga, and I hope each of my students will feel it during our classes together. The basis of my class are the pillars of Forrest Yoga: breath, strength, integrity and spirit. I recently had the honor of training under Ana Forrest, founder of Forrest Yoga. I continue to learn and go deeper, and my goal is to help each of my students do so as well. I teach with a smile and a gentle spirit that I hope will give all of my students a sense of peace and bliss.
I also offer private yoga sessions and Yoga Therapy. By using counseling and yoga together, I am able to explore my deep-rooted belief in mind/body/spirit/nature connections. I see combining yoga with counseling as a natural union and a logical method of healing mind, body and spirit.

I have worked with Alaskan families in various settings beginning in 2003, received a B.A. in Psychology from Alaska Pacific University in 2005 followed by a Master?s of Science in Counseling Psychology in 2008, also from APU.
