My Approach to Helping
I have a heart for working with and helping people despite the life circumstances in which they may find themselves. I have cross-cultural life experience, and I believe that it is important to consider cultural contributions to life issues when discovering a solution. It is a privilege to be invited to walk with you in life's journey whether you are considering counseling as part of your road to restoration or self-discovery during times of major adjustment, distress, heart break, or personal growth. Such an honor will be treated with the confidentiality it deserves.
More Info About My Practice
Yes, I realize that going to see a counselor is about as pleasant as visiting the dentist or accountant, but I hope you will give me the opportunity to prove that counseling can benefit you while not being terribly intimidating. If you've tried counseling before and are skeptical, please remember that each practitioner is different. Their personality is different, their philosophy and application of the many techniques in psychotherapy is different, and their offices are even different. Okay, so the last part was just to see if you were paying attention, but I bet my office doesn't look anything like one of my male colleagues' offices. So, now you have a decision to make. Do you just take my word for it, or do you make a counseling appointment and come see my office for yourself?
I specialize in grief and loss issues and trauma work. I also work with relationship issues, depression, and anxiety. If you are struggling with grief related to job loss, medical complications, loss of family members including pets, or other significant life event(s), please contact me. For those of you brave enough to face your fear of the counseling office, I look forward to meeting you.

My Role as a Therapist
My role as a therapist is to help an individual or family unit explore and define the pieces of their thoughts, behaviors, and past that are combining to create current distress. Treating symptoms alone creates a need for chronic care and a dependance upon the therapist. My goal is to work myself out of a job by providing the client(s) with the tools and knowledge necessary to cope with life issues.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
This is an understandable question as clients want to be able to anticipate recovery. While I cannot give you an exact date sessions will terminate because the goal(s) have been achieved, I can assure you that I provide individualized care. "Cookie cutter counseling" tends to be ineffective and makes individuals feel dehumanized. Most sessions are an hour long, and I typically recommend starting with meeting once a week. This of course depends on your situation, and we will decide together how often you should schedule an appointment. Likewise, we will monitor progress and determine together when therapy is complete.
