I think this is a wonderful, concrete list I can share with my clients. So many times, my clients want to connect on a deeper level but have no idea how to. If I gave them the entire list at one time, it might overwhelm some of them. But giving them three at a time and asking them to try out one before our next session may work really well. I think I'll try this and then keep you posted on the outcome!

Wow! You are certainly very fortunate to have that situation with your mother-in-law. My partner and I have to get a bit more creative since we don't have any family around. But, we generally make it happen by doing many of the things on the list. However, we haven't tried all of them, so I am excited about trying out some new ones!

My favorite on the list is having a date night once a week. My mother-in-law is second to none and takes our kids every Friday night. They spend the night and we pick them up on Saturday morning. My wife and I have such a blast on Friday nights! We are free to do the things you can't with kids-go somewhere when we want to and for how long we want to. Sometimes we just get take out and watch TV together on the couch. Whatever we get ourselves into, it always forms a deeper, more intimate bond between us.

Yes, children can certainly put a damper on intimacy! Two items on the list really stuck out for me: the first was listening. Everyone knows you should do it, but few take the time to actually engage in it. Second, I really like the one about complimenting in front of friends and family. I think that really shows your partner that you are proud of him or her. As we all know, the male ego needs stroking, so this is a powerful way to get that done!

I like the list. It contains some good reminders and some good new ideas. When I was reading the list I got to thinking how much extra effort it takes when a couple has young children... time and individual attention is likely a precious resource.
