My Approach to Helping

I have always found counseling to be a rewarding profession. Each person I meet is unique. Each life situation is a challenge. To help my clients, my counseling style is a blend of investigation and education. Working together, with clear goals, gets results.
Often we are going through a change or transition. Such a time can be quite uncomfortable, giving us a lost feeling. Counseling can provide a "map" through times like that. Then you can get back a sense of direction and balance.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Sure, it can be very scary to make a phone call to a therapist, and that is why I encourage clients to talk with me personally first. During that first phone contact I can do several things. First is to get a general idea of the situation the client is facing and, of course, whether I am able to help in that area. But I always make it part of that phone call to suggest possible ideas for our first goals and what we can do to begin the process of change. Yes, I said "we" because it is absolutely a combined effort. It is my belief that all clients have a sense of hesitation about making that first call and entering counseling. And it is my experience that once we have talked, they are more than ready to make an appointment and begin.
