My Approach to Helping
My philosophy is to offer "respectful psychotherapy - the freedom to express and explore your self". My goal is to support people in becoming their most authentic & loving selves. I offer both short-term services to help people rapidly meet the challenges of their lives, and longer-term work for those who seek deeper exploration of their selves.

More Info About My Practice
I specialize in gay/lesbian/bisexual concerns. I co-lead a co-ed interpersonal process group that meets on Wednesday evenings. Initial visit is $160, individual sessions are $120, couples are $150, group is $50. I accept Medicare (including when Medicaid is secondary).

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love being part of the journey, watching people grow and change and flower before my very eyes. That process is so exciting and rewarding! It continues to amaze me that a consistent environment of compassionate listening can bring so much change.

What I Usually Need to Know to Help

Who and what you love. Where it hurts. Your aspirations. What else usually helps you, and what doesn't.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

They definitely do. I find that every new struggle brings deepened understanding for an ever-broadening array of life problems. Furthermore, I have personal experience with how therapy can be helpful vs. harmful, and how far-reaching its positive effects can be.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

I believe that most mental health concerns develop out of some combination of biological factors, such as a particularly sensitive/responsive nervous system or an inherited tendency toward depression, addiction, or another problem - along with the nature of the relationships and challenges a person has experienced, both in childhood and throughout life - all mediated by the meanings and messages the person gives to these feelings and experiences. Thus, treatment may include a focus on self-care and compassion, new relational and emotional experiences, and/or increased awareness of cognitive habits. I also believe that a focus on sources of strength and delight is an essential part of therapy.
