My Approach to Helping
I believe that counseling is a collaborative effort between me and the individual or family. I use a strength based approach to assist and support people in reaching their goals and living their life to the fullest. In the over 10 years that I have worked with individuals and families; I have found it most rewarding when people have obtained their self identified goals. It is important to get know the individuals or families and utilize techniques that meet their individual needs. The common themes in all my interventions are compassion, empathy and using their own strengths . I feel that it is important that people are able to find their voice and tell their own story. I provide services focused around Trauma and Grief and Loss.

I predominately use EMDR while working with clients that have experienced Trauma. I recognize that Trauma symtpoms present differently in every person and each person has different needs, so I am able to use a range of techniques that would best fit that individual. I am also trained in Trauma - Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Schema Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)and Family Systems Therapy

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Most of my practice is focused on Trauma work. I feel comfortable working with clients that have experienced trauma because of training and experience I have working with this population. I also see the importance of working with people who have experienced trauma because of the long term impact it can have on their lives. The most rewarding part of my work in when someone has been able to reprocess their trauma and then experience the feeling of relief and insight.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

It is a very common fear that many people have before starting therapy. It is important to first start with calming and grounding techniques in order to reduce the symptoms that person is experiencing. Healing does not occur when someone's system is overwhelmed and if a therapist pushes a client past what their tolerence level allows it will only increase their symptoms. In order to reprocess trauma a person needs to feel calm, connected and grounded. I will follow the client's lead and allow them to set the tone and pace of the session.
