My Approach to Helping

Carmel Sheridan is a professionally qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in Galway with a First Class Honours Masters degree in Psychology from NUIG and a Diploma in Counselling. She is an accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. IAHIP is a professional body with a strict code of ethics and a complaints procedure. This ensures the highest standard of professional practice. Carmel is also an approved Couples Counsellor with the Marriage and Relationship Counselling Services. MRCS is the leading non-denominational couple counselling agency in Ireland.

Carmel is the author of two books on dementia care. She is currently working towards accreditation as a professional trainer in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center, USA.

Counselling can help with issues such as depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, addictions, relationship difficulties, panic attacks, abuse, life transitions, divorce or any problems that cause stress.

I offer a warm, respectful and confidential relationship in a safe, professional setting. Within this space, people can explore their anxieties and embark on the journey towards self-awareness. I draw from different therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural, person centered and psychodynamic, and use whichever is most suitable.
