My Approach to Helping

Adults seek psychotherapy for different reasons. Sometimes they want to solve a specific problem produced by difficult circumstances; sometimes they want relief from feelings of general unhappiness and anxiety, other times they want to make a change. I work with people who are interested in getting a better understanding of themselves and their lives because self-knowledge is the most important key to changing attitudes and behavior. Initially, the goal may be to gain relief from emotional pain or discomfort, but as the treatment unfolds and you come to understand yourself better, you will begin to experience more freedom to life your life as you wish and with more pleasure. Children, adolescents and their parents face many challenges in today's culture, challenges at home, with peers, and at school. My goal is to help children and adolescents understand themselves better, reflect on their lives and thoughts, and to change behavior that causes them problems. I use a collaborative approach that often involves parent consultation, although the child's thoughts, feelings and behavior during the play session is kept confidential. Working together makes therapy work.
