My Approach to Helping
REHEARSE FOR LIFE
I had a funny, self-affirming (and self promoting) thought about myself this morning.
"I wish I had had a therapist like me when I was doing my own work many years ago."
Caring, sensitive, fun, creative, thought provoking and able to be a truth teller in a gentle constructive way.
I love my work and I love my clients.
I have practiced over the past 15+ years in every sort of environment imaginable and have had so many extraordinary relationships in every one of those settings. Folks with anxiety, couples with communication troubles, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, battered woman's shelters, prisons, schools and a gazillion one-on-one sessions.
I listen and I share my experience with you. Transparent, open and available. I came to my work as a therapist from a creative arts background. If you google me, you can see the films, theatre and art work I did for the first 25 years of my life. I saw how the role-play, improvisations, poetry, dance and music could be used as therapeutic techniques and so our work together will encompass so much more than just sitting around talking about the past. We will be Rehearsing for Life.
I think the mission of my work is summed up in a piece by the great poet, e.e. cummings.
We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals
that deep inside us something is valuable,
worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.
Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder,
spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.
Let's meet each other and talk.
More Info About My Practice
I charge $125 an hour (but work a full hour). Am willing to consider a sliding scale fee for those clients with special needs, especially in these turbulent times, but I am not on any insurance panels.
I always like to have a face to face consultation so that we can feel the energy in the room together and therefore offer a free 20 minute consultation. I generally find, however, we begin working right away.
I look for the best in people and believe we each have much to offer. Let's find your gifts together.
