Therapy News

Though the peril of eating disorders have been known for quite some time, many people affected by these mental and psychological concerns do not seek or cannot access treatment, and the need for greater awareness is advocated by many within the therapist community. In recognition of this need and in anticipation of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, which takes place from February 21st through the 27th, Pace University in New York has announced a series of documentary films and a lecture to help students connect with the issues surrounding these disorders. It is also hoped that the event will help link those in need with available community resources.

I wish that I lived in an area where showing a film series like this was in the norm, I have been living with having an eating disorder for more than 25 years and I am so sick of living this way, but I guess I have to be thankful that I have survived the sickness for this long.
I have tried all kinds of support groups and programs but nothing seems to last. I think that I get better but then there is always something that will get me right back into those same familiar patterns of either bingeing and purging or just not eating at all.
I hate myself for all of the up and down and my family thinks I am nuts that I can’t seem to get control over this after all of these years. But they don’t see what I see when I look in the mirror and if they only could then maybe they would understand why I live the way that I do.
I know that I have screwed up and have lost a lot as a result of living with an eating disorder but I don’t know how to stop.

It is a very good way to educate people about a particular issue and especially so for discorders because many people do not know that they themselves are suffering from a particular disorder even though they are…

So sorry to hear that you have been living like that for so long Lois. There are some excellent resources available and some great reading material that could help although I am sure you have been there done that. But the good thing is that you recognize that you do have this problem, and I do so wish that you would once again seek help and try to get well. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this journey.

Educational stuff like this presented in multimedia format is sure to draw the crowds when compared to boring flyers and hoarding regarding the same. They need to capitalise on this and make maximum use of such fils and exhibit them at public places and public events… sponsorship will not be a problem because companies would definitely come forward if multimedia and exposure is involved :)

It is nice to see such things being given the spotlight…many people suffer from eating disorder yet most do not know that they suffer from the disorder…seeing the symptoms should give people an idea, and this would lead to them seeking medical help, which is a good way forward to building a healthy world at large.

Hope that the students appreciate the efforts that their school is maing to get the messgae out about how dangerous eating disorders are and how they can get help for themselves or for someone else that they think is in trouble.

Whatever medium has to be used these days to catch students’ attention is well worth a rty.

The main reason why even simple conditions to overcome several issues are not quite followed and the problems eradicated is because of lack of awareness in the general public.Programs like these are bound to bring in a lot of awareness for the people, thereby helping the community at large.
