There are many initiatives that can be taken to help promote positive mental health, but some of the most prominent and widely-applicable have been gathered by a recently launched campaign in Flintshire in the UK. The campaign, entitled “Be a Part Not Apart,” has proposed that through staying connected with others socially, engaging in physical activity, seeking new paths of learning, concentrating on being alert, and being charitable with others, people can expect to enjoy a greater quality of mental health. The campaign is set to run for three months and will produce printed media and activities.

As someone who works in the mental health field with adolescents I really like this idea. I think that the stronger the government promotes and pushes a healthier overall lifestyle the greater the likelihood that the citizens will follow that ideal. When there is no support and no resources people flounder and do not know which way to turn. This allows families to see that mental health treatment is a priority for keeping the population healthy and well and they will discover better and new ways to take care of themselves and of others.
