Treatment for Computer Addiction Spreads

Traditionally, psychotherapists have worked with people facing the difficulties of substance abuse and addictions, developing special programs or types of treatment to help clients overcome the clutches of various drugs, alcohol, or even negative behavioral habits. With the rise in the ubiquity of computers and the internet, treatment for computer addiction is becoming more popular, as evidenced by the creation of specialty clinics and psychotherapeutic specializations. While computers have doubtless become invaluable tools for modern living, help for internet addiction may prove invaluable in ensuring that the machines do not have a significant negative impact on the happiness of some users.

I recently read about a young boy in Romania who was gaming for over 12 hours at a stretch and finally collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.

This incident clearly shows two things-1)Your health is at a risk, and
    2)Your social life is non-existent.

Both of these things happen due to addiction to the computer, which just shows how negative the addiction is.

I have seen myself unable to stay away from the computer during vacations…I am kind of ‘pulled’ by this game,Counter Strike…I am not able to stay away for too long and I feel incomplete when I am away from the computer…Just cannot stop myself…going to game again now!

Internet addiction? Are you for real? This is what we have come to? This just shows that way too many of us just have too much time on our hands!

Most people who are addicted to the internet do not even know it but end up spending long hours online everyday…I think the reason they are unaware is because they do not know the general guidelines and symptoms…more awareness in this issue would be appreciated.

I have known people that you can’t drag away from the computer for anything in the world but I never thought of this as a real adidction. But having read this I guess I can see where that comes from. But it’s weird to me- I would much rather interact with real friends instead of sitting in front of a screen all day long!! This is bizarre. But I guess one more danger that the prevalence of computers has brought into our lives that we never before would have even thought possible.
