Low IQ Scores Found Prominent among Those with Suicide Attempt Histories

A number of different factors are likely to play a part in the development of thoughts and feelings that may induce a person to attempt suicide, though IQ is rarely taken into account in such cases. Recently, a study performed on a large dataset of Swedish young males found that those with a lower IQ were more likely to be hospitalized later in life for attempted suicide. Though the researchers note that the data is so far restricted to males of a certain age group and nationality, the work may help identify those who are at a greater risk of developing suicidal thoughts, and may lead towards providing meaningful preventive care.

Although this could be a true fact,I can only see it forming prejudices in the minds of people.
Also,a person attempting suicide is not only driven to it by his/her low IQ,but also due to a host of other factors as well.

Think that this has something to do with the possibility that people with lower iq’s have a lower tolerance for pain and dealing? Maybe their coping skills are not high as others?

I completely agree with what ginny says here…maybe such people are not able to see the larger picture and act upon smaller things in life and may go to the extent of even ending their lives for small things!
