Study on Anti-Depressants Finds Major Personality Changes
December 11th, 2009
Most modern anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications are criticized by many in the mental health community due to their abundant use and low probability of definitively providing a meaningful solution to mental health concerns. A study at Northwestern University has stirred up additional debate over the drugs thanks to its findings that many of those exposed to a certain medication experience deep personality changes in two of five major criteria. The findings are a cause for celebration for some, but raise concerns for others, who may question the wisdom of altering seemingly intrinsic personality traits. The debate is likely to continue as psychotherapy and medications struggle to receive honest assessment and use.

Personality changes are harmful in more cases than it is beneficial in… I do not support the use of such medication techniques and drugs.
Well, it all comes down to the situation and need of medication… if a person really needs to be administered such a drug and has given a go-ahead, i don’t see the need for anybody else’s permission or comment in such a case.
I was on anti depressants for a while and remained quite the zombie until my psychistrist and I were able to find the one that was the best fit for me. I know that there are people out there who scream that over medicating is not the answer and while I do agree that it can be done in the extreme, you have to understand that there are those of us for whom anti depressants have made a huge difference in our lives in a good way and that without them we would be so down that we may feel like we could never get back up again. So I just think that in these cases you really have to stay on top of the situation with a trained pro who can help you realize when things may be wrong and that there may be a better prescription drug out there for you.
