My home is surrounded by trees and even though I work in the city, my weekends are spent sitting down in my backyard, enjoying my coffee and taking in all that nature has to offer.

Too many of those same city councils Vanessa mentioned would sooner use the land for commercial properties or industrial estates they can make money from in rent, taxes etc. It's good to see the benefits of wide open green spaces being proven repeatedly. As the parks get smaller and smaller, it's our duty to keep pressing local officials to make sure they are still there for our grandchildren to enjoy.

Many would not observe but many critical things around us are green-colored for this very reason. For example, the curtains in hospitals are usually green in color because green has a soothing and healing effect.

We now hear about color-therapy wherein a person is exposed to different colors to sooth him and different colors for different purposes... Green has to be the best color there is because it is found in abundance in nature.

No wonder firms invest thousands of dollars in making their campuses green and clean... also,if you folks have observed, it is encouraged by most local authorities to have green spaces in your property and neighbourhood... more reason for such an exercise to be encouraged!
