Stress-Free Spaces are Created through Fragrance
July 26th, 2009
While not everybody subscribes to the idea that aromatherapy is all it’s cracked up to be, a study recently performed in Japan has revealed that fragrances can indeed result in lower levels of stress. Working with laboratory mice, the research team tested the efficacy of linalool, a fragrant substance prized for its associations with calming and relaxation, with the result that exposed mice exhibited a normal, relaxed state in contrast to the control group. The study makes no pretense of providing an olfactory miracle cure, but a little lavender or other pleasant scents may go a long way toward aiding therapy sessions.

I use lavender oil in my bath before I turn in and I can vouch that fragrances definitely soothe one’s senses. While some aromas like citrus wake us up and perk up our day, some aromas like lavender definitely calm anyone.
I run a massage parlour and we are in the business of stress busting. We definitely cant function without calming aromatic oils and fragrances. Its what contributes to the ambience and in some cases are infused into the various treatments.
I think aromas create moods. When we smell spices we feel hungry. Passion can be stoked with woody fragrances and aromas like rose, jasmine and orchid can be quite romantic. Definitely fragrances alter moods and help in creating an ambience. This definitely is stress busting.
