One of the most crucial aspects of modern efforts to understand and eradicate schizophrenia focuses on discovering why the concern develops, and how. Researchers have suspected that issues involving iron deficiency –which can be responsible for a lowered production of hemoglobin, necessary for delivering oxygen throughout the body– may be linked to the eventual development of schizophrenia. Recently, researchers from the University Hospital in Copenhagen have produced a study suggesting that iron-deficiency anemia in expectant mothers can play a role in the risk of schizophrenia to children. While more precise research into the nature of the link is needed, the importance of screening for anemia will likely be underscored by the study.

And all the more reason for expectant moms to get the prenatal care that they need. Too often women ignore these visits and think that things will just progress naturally and that they will be fine. But it is imperative for so many reasons that pregnant women see their doctors regularly to keep their health issues under control, not just for their own welfare, but for the benefit of the unborn child. This article simply highlights one more thing that doctors and moms should be looking for to ensure not only that the baby is born healthy but that it is has a bright and healthy future as well.

while anemia is harmful in any situation and may pose the threat of a variety of problems for a person, it becomes all the more problematic when it is experienced by a mother-to-be. This is because the same nutrition is routed to the foetus and if it is insufficient, it will definitely lead to problems and complications for both the mother and the child.

Is this something that the typical physician would miss? I would think that there would be tests for this all throughout a woman’s pregnancy.

An article like this makes you realize just how precious those new lives are. You really do not think about how inter connected the health of the mother and the baby are until new research like this is presented. You have to take such good care of yourself when you are expecting because you never know what behaviors that you exhibit during that time are going to manifest themselves in the life of your child who knows how many years down the road. If doctors are not preaching that now, then there is no better time than this moment for them to get on the soapboxes and tell moms and dads this messgae. It is imperative that the baby live in peace and comfort while developing, and what amazing results this will have on him or her for a healthier lifetime ahead.

More reason for moms-to-be to look after themselves and also for their partners to look after them and to keep a check on their health so that the baby does not suffer from any issues when it actually arrives:)

this report just goes out to show how closely knit a mother and her child(foetus) are… the health of the mother has a direct defau on that of the child and may even have an effect on the child’s health later on in life, as illustrated by this report.

Schizophrenia is such a debilitating illness for anyone to live with. This is one that I hope that research like this will help stem very quickly before so many more lives and families have to be devastated by this disease.

This study is surely a boost to a lot of people as they may be or coz know an expectant mother who is not very healthy…such a person can make amends and prevent the possibility of having a baby with this very-ugly disorder.
