Personality Type May Influence Physical Health Difficulties
August 20th, 2009

To some, the idea that an individual’s personality type can play a major role in their physical health may not come as a surprise. But for those with peripheral arterial disease, or PAD, having a certain type of personality may be an indication for a greater risk of complications and of death. As PAD affects those who grapple with its symptoms by creating plaque build-up in the arteries leading to major body support systems and organs such as the heart and brain, exacerbating the condition can have serious consequences. A study performed in the Netherlands found that those with a negative, inhibited personality type were significantly more likely to develop increased PAD complications than those with other personality types. Special monitoring and treatment for clients with both attributes may be needed to help them achieve a better quality of life.
