A GoodTherapy.org News Headline
An increased awareness about the benefits of psychotherapy and mental health and attention to a positive well-being is extraordinarily beneficial in the international effort to bring more competent services to those in need of professional assistance and care. Also important is fostering understanding of the ways in which minorities in the US interact with the mental health care system, which is the goal of the Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. source: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/156333.php

I never heard of this before. Seems like there is a national month for just about everything. Good idea to support this, though
Having worked with minority groups for much of my career I can not only tell you just how much this awareness is needed, but also how much some of this will be frowned upon by these same groups. You see there are many who feel too proud to seek help for these mental health issues, and feel that these are things to be worked out within the family. I know that this is felt by many different groups and I am not trying to be stereotypical at all, but I always sense a hesitation from some minority group members to seek help outside of their own home. Has anyone else seen this as a pattern as well in their own careers?
It is sad when people are just too stubborn to take advantage of services that are right there in front of them.
And that can be true of groups no matter their socioeconomic background!
