Share Your Feeelings with Your General Practitioner, It Could Save Your Life

New research underscores the importance of psychology in medicine. Nearly 30 percent of doctor’s patients have mental health issues, and psychological and physical symptoms are very closely linked. Sussex psychologists Dr. Susan Ayers and Dr. Richard de Visser, who authored the study, said “The important thing about this book is that it is applied science – it shows why psychology is important to medicine and how we would use it. Promoting healthy lifestyles is an important aspect of medicine and has the potential to save thousands of lives. It’s also vital to understand that people respond differently to illness so it’s important for doctors not to assume they know how the patient feels.”

Sounds like a fair suggestion to me. After all there surely is connection between how we feel and our body. And not too many of us actually talk about this to our doctor. Also,if there is any mental health issue, such a discussion could be the initialization of identifying the issue and then going on to see a specialist.
My GP is always my first stop when I am sick, and he is always there with some of the best suggestions. I know that there are specialists for a reason but I will always go to my GP first.
This is surprising, really! I never thought my general practioner would be able to help me in any manner when it comes to depression and other such things..! But i guess a general practitioner is really a ‘general’ doctor.
