Working through feelings of depression can be a significant challenge at any point of life, but women who become pregnant may experience additional difficulty in the face of numerous restrictions regarding traditional treatment. As a number of psychiatric medications indicated for feelings of depression are not recommended for use during pregnancy, suggests a recently released review of published literature on the topic, psychotherapy may present a more sound and comfortable treatment choice for pregnant women. Depressed mothers who seek out psychotherapy may be able to help their babies lead more prosperous and healthy lives in their first years.

I just had my second child. During my first pregnancy I struggled through it on my own without and help from mental health professionals. This time around I sought out counseling for the sake of me, my 2 year old, and my unborn baby. This pregnancy was so much easier having an outlet like therapy to work through my concerns and fears. I definitely suggest it to pregnant mothers who are struggling with depression during and and after pregnancy. It can make the process a lot easier!
Depression is one condition where people’s perspective to the world change. In this very condition its about the mother and foetus.I think its better to convince the mother about the treatment as many medications can be teratogenic.I must agree that psychotherapy can be more helpful for depressed mothers to help their babies lead more prosperous and healthy lives in their first years.
It is a well-known fact that many of the traditional treatments are not recommended during pregnancy… In this light, it is very heartening to see that psychotherapy works for pregnant women. Many pregnant women undergo various kinds of depressions and other problems and this is great news.
There are many women who are scared to admit all that they are feeling during pregnancy. Not only is your body undergoing major changes but you are also terrified about what the future will hold for you and your children. For many this is the happiest times of their lives but for others it is a huge step and involves a lot of fear and anxiety. Psychotherapy can really make a huge difference in helping women sort out their various feeling in this time of change and we have to make it acceptable for them to seek the help that they need.
Psychotherapy is the logical step to take when depression meds are unavailable or ill considered during pregnancy. Heck, after the therapy mothers may find they don’t need to go back on them. I firmly believe nothing beats talking things through with a therapist and taking meds can morph into more of a crutch than a cure.
