There are many types of specialization within the therapy and counseling fields, and those who are specifically trained for a certain profession can have a markedly positive impact on the lives and well-being of clients faced with precise workplace demands. Potentially one of the most stressful and emotionally harrowing fields is that of public service pertaining to emergency response, and recently, firefighters and police workers have been reaching out for –and finding– more specialized therapy and counseling. When professionals understand the lexicon and context of their professional environment, the workers say, they can feel more supported and understood, elements that may be crucial to recovery.

Specialization in these areas is going to be critical for being able to provide the very best psychiatric care to these men and women who deal in very unique circumstances everyday. They see and do things that the rest of us know nothing about, therefore their therapy and the ways to treat their own specific problems must be different. I so admire the work that they do but I know there must be times where they can’t sleep at night, beating themselves up over the lives that they maybe could not save, and they can’t wrap their minds around the many many lives that they have saved in their bravery. It is time for therapists to delve in there and get at the heart of the things that specifically apply to this group of workers, because for me they are all heroes and not one needs to be lost to the devastation that mental anguish and grief can cause.

People in some professions face a lot more stress than others and firefighters and cops are definitely such professionals… they are constantly faced with situations and stress that most of would dread to handle even for a day. This is good that special attention is given to such people.

these are the people we need to be thankful to…these are the real heroes who put their own lives at stake to try and save the lives of others…and they deserve nothing but the best, the best counseling tailored to their needs and something that is going to really make a difference for them, to help them overcome any issue that they might be facing.

Whatever the field, it is always best to have specialized services for different kind of people and for people with different backgrounds. A common method for each and every person does not go well as a tailor-made service is always preferred and is often more beneficial to all.

You know these have to be people who deal with a lot of different issues in their lives, from the crazy hours to the impossible task of feeling like you have to be able to save everyone. What a monster burden that must feel like, in addition to being the parent and supporting the family life at home. I know that one of these things alone must bring a great deal of emotional stress but to group them all together into one job has to be a lot to bear. I am so happy to hear that different cities and agencies are pooling their resources to make counseling specialized for those in these fields because some of the issues they have to deal with are not ones that you would want to have to tackle alone.

you would think that fire departments and police departments would already have specially trained counselors to work with their employees on a regular basis
